New at Atelier 210, first english speaking event! Organised by Atelier 210 and Science & Cocktails Brussels.

Science & Cocktails is an initiative that brings science and entertainment closer together by creating a series of public lectures intertwined with music/art performances and smoky dry-ice chilled cocktails in your hand.

Scientific knowledge is in general not considered accessible by many and, like any other form of information, it travels from researcher to journalist and is finally transmitted through the usual media channels (but perhaps slightly distorted). Science & Cocktails aims to create a relaxed platform where researchers and audience are on equal footing and conversations can be easily followed while sipping a Famous Penicillin cocktail side by side with your favorite scientist.

It is our belief that a night culture that evolves around knowledge, discussion and entertainment is altogether lacking in urban spaces. Taking a scientific approach that extends not only through information flow but also as an inspiration in music/art and as a tool in the craft of cocktails we seek to create a unique atmosphere.

Science & Cocktails is a non-profit initiative which aims to make scientific knowledge accessible to everybody as a service to the community. Thanks to support from the Science & Cocktails foundation in Denmark, ULB and FNRS, these events are free and open to everyone.

#1 Edition: EXOPLANETS WITH EMMANUËL JEHIN:

What is an exoplanet? How many exoplanets have been found? How do you find new exoplanets? What are the necessary conditions for a planet to be habitable? Will we ever be able to live in one of them?

Science & Cocktails begins in Brussels with a fantastic event about the recent discovery of a new planetary system by a team of Belgium astronomers.

For thousands of years humans have speculated whether the Universe is teeming with planets where life could exist, or whether our living Earth might be completely unique. Are there more planets out there like ours? Is there life in them?

On the 22nd of February 2017, a team of astronomers from the University of Liège revealed to the world the discovery of an exoplanet system with conditions favourable for the development of life. This discovery was published in the prestigious Nature magazine and relayed by a press conference at NASA. TRAPPIST-1 is the system that has both the largest number of Earth-like planets and the largest number of potentially habitable worlds ever discovered to date. During this event, Emmanuël Jehin, member of the team, will come back to this fabulous discovery and the research prospects that are open to them today.

Afterwards, enjoy a delightful menu of smoky dry ice cocktails specially crafted for the purpose of enjoying possible future homes for mankind while FAON FAON will take on the stage for a live show.
